Leap Day by Wendy Mass

leapday1.JPGJosie was born on February 29, Leap Day, and now she’s sixteen. Technically it’s her fourth birthday because Leap Day only comes once every four years. Josie can’t wait until tonight becau se when you turn sixteen, your friends throw you a huge party at “The Lake.” She also can’t wait until she leaves school because she’s taking her driver’s test. As she’s getting ready for school Rob, Josie’s brother, yells through the bathroom door for her to hurry up. When she opens the door she finds her parents and brother standing right in the middle of the hallway. On the door knob was a balloon that read “Happy Sweet Sixteen.” When Josie walks in her room she notices something under her extra pillow. She walks up to it and finds a key to “The Shark,” an old gray van. As she’s jumping up and down screaming in excitement, Rob watches from the doorway. After she’s done he asks her if she wants a ride to school. Usually he drives his friends to school but he figures it would be nice since it’s her birthday. As usual Josie takes the bus with her friends. When she walks into class she notices that the board say “HAPPY BIRTHDAY JOSIE.” As she’s waiting for the period to end she remembers that she didn’t give the note to the office about her leaving early for her test. Josie starts to get nervous as the time comes for the driver’s test. Read Leap Day to see if Josie passes the test and what happens during the part at the lake. This is an amusing book and one of the best that I have ever read.

Maximum Ride: Saving the World and Other Extreme Sports by James Patterson

maxride.JPGThis is a thrilling and awe inspiring book. If you have not read the other two books in the series, this book will catch you up on the events that occurred prior to this book. The chapters, although very short, will keep you in suspense. The book is divided into four parts. This book will grab a hold of you and will not let go until the end, making you want another book in the series.

In the beginning, Max and her flock are headed to Florida in order to escape the evil white coats. However, erasers (who are robots) follow them throughout the story. Max’s mission is to save the world. How does it happen and does Max succeed? The answers are revealed in the book!

Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Roderick Rules by Jeff Kinney

wimpy-kid.JPGDiary of a Wimpy Kid: RODRICK RULES is a very funny book. Greg Heffley, the narrator, shares many stories about what happens to him when he does crazy things. Greg is a procrastinator, doing everything at the last minute and sometimes he doesn’t even get to finish what he starts. His buddy, Rowley, seems to be right by his side during some of his adventures. One of the funniest jokes Greg plays on a schoolmate is pretending as if he’s not even there. He likes to get people worked up and somehow when there’s trouble, he comes out clean. This story is written like a diary and is very easy to follow. I think you’ll enjoy this book.

Eggs by Jerry Spinelli

eggs.JPGEggs is a book about a 9 year-old boy who goes Easter egg hunting. He isn’t fast enough and receives no eggs. So he goes farther into the woods. To his surprise, he finds a yellow egg sticking out. He dares to go get it; he picks it up… under it he finds lips! He removes more leaves… A DEAD CORPSE! He was not afraid. He talked to it (he actually had a conversation with it). Then finally his grandmom calls him. They go home.

The next day, he goes back and finds the corpse missing! He watches the news. He reads the newspaper. This goes on for about a week. No sign of a dead body found in the park.

He finally calls the police… he hangs up after a couple minutes, so he never really did talk to the police. If you want to know what happens in this book, read it! On a scale of 1 to 5, I give it a 4!
